Fairytales are more than true: not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us dragons can be beaten - G K Chesterton

The other half just played 16th Century Greensleeves on his radio show. May have forgotten how awesome this lot are!

“Introverts, in contrast, may have strong social skills and enjoy parties and business meetings, but after a while wish they were home in their pajamas. They prefer to devote their social energies to close friends, colleagues, and family. They listen more than they talk, think…

And me. It used to worry me intensely that I was an introvert, now I’m pretty happy with it :)

Happy 90th Birthday to the incredible Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee. A true fan of J.R.R Tolkien’s work, he is the only member of the cast to have actually met and spoken to the professor, and to have his blessing to star (albeit as Gandalf) in a film adaptation. He gave the role of Saruman the perfect intensity, and had the commanding, powerful voice that haunts us still.

I encourage everybody to read Lord of Misrule, his autobiography. Wonderful self deprecating wit and some cracking stories to tell - he’s also very kind and appreciative of the rest of the LOTR cast (of course it got a chapter!)

Eurovision

The best bit? The fact Graham Norton had clearly been necking a few and just gave up entirely on tact and diplomacy once the acts had finished. You gem, you xD

Bob Langrish - Equestrian Photographer

And for the winners - the North Swedish Horse (or Swedish Draught Horse)

Ah why not. In honour of Eurovision’s host last night - the Karabakh Horse from Azerbaijan.

From ALTA Amur Leopard Conservation

I saw the male Amur Leopard they have at Yorkshire Wildlife Park last week - they’re stunning animals. Sad that there’s only about 35 left in the wild. The people at YWF are hoping to find a female with which he can breed and then are wanting to put the offspring back into the wild in Russia. It’d be nice if they succeed :)

It’s happened.

Thinking about something a little surprising, and my mental exclamation of surprise began with “Hood’s breath”…. damn, I’m a proper Malazan fangirl! :D

Wuthering Heights

Well I enjoyed it enough to read to the end, but it left me with the feeling I’d missed the point. The story is dominated by Heathcliffe’s malice and in the end it gets him nowhere - or is that the point? I don’t know. The happy resolution feels very “token” after the nature of the rest of the story.

The only thing I can possibly glean from it is their addictive love leads them to not care who they destroy in the process.

Ah well, I’m glad I read it but probably wouldn’t do so again.

I think my Dad still half-suspects it’s Marilyn Manson under there….
